A popular desire of Corporate America these days seem to be the desire to engage the Technology equivalent of a Music Rock Star in all of their high-profile projects. In my chosen discipline this would be the “C# .NET Rock Star”.
The driving force behind this trend is the realization that you “Get What You Pay For” in terms of development talent. Many companies have realized less than desirable results by believing that “More is Better” at lower costs than quality. Trying to pay sixty cents foe a dollars worth of work generally costs the company far more than a dollar.
I was recently introduced as a C# .NET Rock Star to perspective clients from a number of Technology agencies. This got me thinking about how I have been presented in the past and was different now. I asked myself a question:
What Constitutes a “C# .NET Rock Star”?
The answer I came up with was the career paradigm shift I made a few years back.
I made a serious commitment to “Redefine Myself” as a Technologist. I looked at myself in the proverbial mirror one day and was gazing upon the face of a Dinosaur. The train had left the station and was not even aware there was a train leaving!
I am not sure what a C# .NET Rock Star really is …
… But I can tell you what I did to get people to see me as one
The first thing I did was take an inventory of my current skill set. Next, I looked at what skills were being sought after on the major job boards. I then compared what I believed was a good collection of achieved skills that I possessed against the skills requirements for the opportunities I felt that I had earned a right to, based on my years in the Industry. I then googled therapists in my areas, as I clearing need some serious help?
After some serious soul-searching I came to this conclusion:
I needed a “Paradigm Shift” in my entire thought process of how I approached my career
But how do you change everything you have been doing for years? The answer was incredible simple but the transformation was far from simple …
Study the People that have the Skills …
… Do What They are Doing
I research the major players in the Software Development Industry. I did not restrict it to my chosen discipline but to skills that apply to all disciples. That is when I found the “Pot of Gold”.
A Technology Rock Star THINKS differently than the rest of us! …
… They Embrace “The Art of Software Development”
The Technology Rock Star uses “The Science of Software Development” as his toolbox to create the “Art of Software Development” masterpieces. The Modern Developer website is dedicated to providing the vehicle to take you to the land of the C# .NET Rock Stars.
Embrace the challenge to become a “Modern Developer”. It is not easy, but the rewards are well worth the commitment. It requires daily disciplined behavior and a passion for success.
Good luck and we will be here to help!
